Major release
Build the battle, then fight it
dWars v0.5.0 · 29 July 2026
A full level editor, a unit you can command directly, and supply lines you can finally see.
New
- The level editor is open. Map, loadout, waves, upgrades and unit logic are all yours — place bases and battalions on a real map preview, then play what you built without leaving the screen.
- Take direct control of a single unit and fly it into the fight yourself. The camera follows, and it picks its own targets while you read the rest of the line.
- Battles now arrive in waves from authored spawn points, so a map's pressure builds instead of landing all at once.
- Damage reads at a glance — floating numbers over contact, with battalion and spawn labels drawn straight onto the map.
- Command mode draws each battalion as a silhouette with edge blips, so you can read the whole front without hunting for individual units.
- Battalion supply routes now draw along the roads that carry them, from supply point to battalion.
Changed
- Supply holds a steady circle around your positions and extends into territory you've captured, instead of fading unpredictably at the edges.
- The camera is down to two unconstrained modes — less fighting the view, more reading the map.
- Selected movement roads soften and pulse, so the path a battalion will actually take is obvious before you commit.
- Levels reach the field faster, and shaders warm up behind the curtain so the opening seconds no longer stutter.
- Battalion hotkey digits take their battalion's own colour —
1,2,3now match what you see on the map. - Brief, reward, win and loss screens carry a new halftone treatment, so the story pages belong to the same world as the battlefield.
Fixed
- Units that wandered off-road no longer strand themselves — they escape, repair their path, and rejoin the battalion.
- Units no longer push through buildings; obstacle collision is enforced after every move rather than before it.
- The Map Setup preview no longer places bases and battalions upside-down.
- CID battalions no longer order moves to positions outside the map edge.
- The player-controlled unit reliably fires instead of holding its shot.
Known issues
- Desktop only for now — mobile pointer support is still in the trenches.
You can draw the map now. It still won't fight for you. — Elle
