Combat update
Combat gets teeth
dWars v0.2.7 · 15 April 2026
Real per-unit weapons, real explosions with real splash — and bunching up is finally a mistake.
New
- Per-unit weapons. Tanks now fire proper shells that arc to their target and explode on impact. Rollers get an instant-hit laser beam — point, zap, visible beam, no travel time. Drones drop grenades with their own splash radius, tuned separately from everything else.
- Explosions are real now. An impact spawns an actual explosion that renders and damages everything nearby. Splash uses quadratic falloff — full damage at the centre, very little at the edge — and a single shell can catch several enemies at once. Bunching up near a tank shell is genuinely risky.
Changed
- New Combat Balance editor lets us tune damage, splash radius, and reload per unit without code changes — so balance passes land faster.
- Campaign: more robust level-end handling, a startup guard against bad first-run states, and level-duration tweaks for better pacing.
- Groundwork for a real CID opponent — we've begun training enemy AI behind the scenes.
Fixed
- Rollers no longer lose their target lock mid-burst.
Positioning was always the point. Now the shells agree. — Elle
